Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash Bring Ramayana

Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash lead Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part adaptation, with advance bookings and new promotional footage drawing attention ahead of Diwali.

Published: 21 October 2026

Ramayana has received a tax-free announcement in West Bengal ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on November 5, 2026. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the decision during Dussehra celebrations in Kolkata, attended by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and members of the film’s team, according to The Indian Express.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the film stars Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Its release comes as the makers expand promotions for the first instalment of their planned two-part adaptation.

Ramayana release date confirmed for November 5

Sony Pictures’ official Canadian listing confirms November 5 as the theatrical release date for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend. Indian ticketing platform BookMyShow also lists November 5, 2026, for the film’s release.

The second instalment is planned for Diwali 2027. This means the upcoming release will begin the adaptation rather than present the entire epic in a single film.

West Bengal tax-free announcement adds to release coverage

The Kolkata appearance brought Kapoor and Yash to the Dussehra celebrations at Central Park in Salt Lake. Director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra and actor Ravie Dubey also attended, The Indian Express reported.

While the announcement has drawn attention, viewers should wait for cinema listings to confirm final ticket prices. The reports reviewed do not establish a uniform discount or a detailed implementation schedule. The announcement applies to West Bengal and should not be read as a nationwide concession.

Ramayana advance bookings open ahead of release

Advance bookings began on October 20, coinciding with Dussehra. Early reporting shows ticket sales building ahead of the film’s November opening.

The Indian Express reported approximately ₹4.88 crore in advance bookings and around 85,000 tickets sold in an early October 21 update. These are reported booking figures, rather than final opening-day box-office earnings. They will change as more tickets sell and additional screenings become available.

Ramayana cast and characters

The central cast brings together actors from Hindi and South Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita, and Yash takes on Ravana. Ravie Dubey appears as Lakshmana, while Sunny Deol plays Hanuman.

The supporting ensemble includes Arun Govil as Dasharatha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha. Govil’s involvement carries a familiar connection for television audiences, following his portrayal of Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s 1987 Ramayan series.

What is the Ramayana movie about?

The film adapts the ancient Indian epic traditionally attributed to Valmiki. Its broader story follows Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, his exile, Sita’s abduction and the conflict with Ravana, the king of Lanka.

The latest trailers introduce that conflict through scenes featuring Rama and Ravana, alongside action sequences and visual effects. However, the promotional material does not establish exactly where the first film will end within the larger story.

New trailer and Ravana footage support promotions

A second trailer released on October 15 in Hindi and English, offering further footage of the characters and the film’s action. The two versions use different dialogue in places, including how they introduce Rama’s identity and his confrontation with Ravana.

The makers followed it with Ravana Tandav footage featuring Yash on Dussehra, adding a fresh promotional release shortly before the film reaches cinemas.

A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer compose the music

Ramayana brings together A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer for its score. Sony Pictures lists Nitesh Tiwari as director, Shridhar Raghavan as screenwriter and Namit Malhotra as producer.

The production involves Prime Focus Studios, DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. Their collaboration places visual effects and music alongside the cast as central elements of the film’s theatrical presentation.

For viewers planning to watch Ramayana, November 5 remains the confirmed release date. Local cinema listings will provide the final details on showtimes, available formats and ticket prices as the opening approaches.
