Veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar makes a surprise return to India’s T20I squad as injury concerns and a 2-2 series tie set the stage for a crucial showdown in Bengaluru.
India have recalled experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar after nearly four years ahead of the fifth and final T20 International against West Indies, scheduled for October 17, 2026, at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed his inclusion on Friday after left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh suffered a shoulder injury during the fourth T20I in Hyderabad. Arshdeep’s availability will depend on a fitness assessment before the match.
Bhuvneshwar’s International Comeback
The 36-year-old last represented India in November 2022 against New Zealand. Known for his swing bowling, disciplined line and death-over variations, Bhuvneshwar brings valuable experience to India’s pace attack.
His selection follows a strong IPL 2026 season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he claimed 28 wickets in 16 matches.
Although he has joined the squad, his participation in Saturday’s playing XI remains unconfirmed.
West Indies Fight Back to Level Series 2-2
The five-match series is tied 2-2 after West Indies defeated India by 24 runs in Hyderabad on October 14.
Captain Shai Hope delivered an unbeaten 102 as West Indies posted 247/3. Despite Sanju Samson’s aggressive 56, India were dismissed for 223.
West Indies’ victory has increased the pressure on India’s bowling attack ahead of the deciding match.
