Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar has begun its theatrical run behind Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli, according to opening-day trade estimates. The courtroom drama earned approximately ₹3.52 crore worldwide on Friday, October 16, compared with ₹4.58 crore for Gautam’s horror-comedy. Both films released on the same day.
The figures give Nayyi Navelli an opening-day worldwide lead of ₹1.06 crore. However, the films had different release sizes, with Gautam’s film receiving considerably more shows across India. Prahaar recorded slightly higher occupancy despite collecting less overall.
Prahaar box-office collection on opening day
According to Sacnilk figures reported by The Indian Express, Prahaar collected ₹2.35 crore net in India. Its domestic gross reached ₹2.77 crore, while overseas markets contributed approximately ₹75 lakh, taking its worldwide gross to ₹3.52 crore.
The film played across 4,133 tracked shows in India and registered approximately 13% occupancy. Reported opening-day attendance stood at around one lakh viewers. These figures represent trade estimates and may be revised.
Nayyi Navelli takes the early lead
Nayyi Navelli collected an estimated ₹3.25 crore net in India on its first day. Its domestic gross stood at ₹3.83 crore, with another ₹75 lakh from overseas markets.
That placed its worldwide opening at ₹4.58 crore. The film registered approximately 11% occupancy across 6,281 shows, according to the Sacnilk estimates reported by Variety India. Its reported attendance was approximately 1.55 lakh viewers.
Based on those figures, Nayyi Navelli had 2,148 more shows than Prahaar. Its wider release accompanied higher total attendance, even though its occupancy percentage was lower. Occupancy measures the proportion of available seats filled, so a higher percentage does not automatically mean a larger box-office collection.
Two different genres compete for audiences
Prahaar places Rao in the role of public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. The story focuses on his legal career, including proceedings connected to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Wamiqa Gabbi also appears in the film, marking another collaboration with Rao after Bhool Chuk Maaf.
Directed by Avinash Arun, the film also features Lalit Prabhakar, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher, according to release coverage. Its courtroom setting gives audiences a different option from the supernatural comedy of Nayyi Navelli.
Balaji Mohan directs Nayyi Navelli, which centres on a new bride entering a household in Meerut. Her brother-in-law begins to suspect that she has a supernatural identity, setting up a story that mixes family conflict, fantasy and comedy. Gautam stars alongside Adinath Kothare and other supporting actors.
Weekend collections will give a clearer picture
The opening-day comparison puts Nayyi Navelli ahead in both India net collections and worldwide gross. Prahaar’s higher occupancy provides useful context, but neither film’s first-day total establishes its eventual commercial result.
Saturday and Sunday collections will show whether either release can build on its opening. For Prahaar, the immediate test is whether audience response leads to stronger attendance. Nayyi Navelli enters the weekend with the larger opening total and a wider show allocation.
The ₹3.52 crore and ₹4.58 crore figures refer to worldwide gross collections for opening day, rather than profits or cumulative weekend earnings.
