Sandeep Reddy Vanga Praises Ranabaali, Applauds Vijay and Rashmika

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali has drawn fresh attention after filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga praised its lead performances and historical narrative. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the Telugu period action drama arrived in cinemas on October 16 and earned an estimated ₹16.50 crore worldwide on its opening day, according to box-office tracker Sacnilk.

The film reunites Deverakonda and Mandanna seven years after Dear Comrade. Their latest collaboration moves away from contemporary romance to a story of resistance set against the Great Madras Famine of 1876–1878.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga praises Ranabaali’s performances

In his social-media reaction, Vanga urged audiences to watch Ranabaali and praised Deverakonda’s portrayal of its central character. He also singled out Mandanna’s performance as Jayamma, writing that her character “felt so achingly real.”

His appreciation extended to Ajay–Atul’s music and Sankrityan’s treatment of the historical subject. Vanga described the film as offering “something of serious academic interest,” while applauding the director’s interest in a chapter of Indian history that receives limited mainstream attention. Those comments reflect the filmmaker’s assessment of the drama.

Vanga also praised Deverakonda’s action performance in a separate message, suggesting that the actor could become a defining action star in Indian cinema. Deverakonda responded warmly and recalled the director’s support during their earlier collaboration, Arjun Reddy. Mandanna also thanked Vanga for his review.

Ranabaali box-office collection on Day 1

Sacnilk reported an opening-day worldwide gross of approximately ₹16.50 crore. India contributed ₹10.75 crore gross, while overseas markets accounted for ₹5.75 crore. The tracker also reported around 7.12 lakh admissions across 2,515 shows, with overall occupancy of approximately 57%.

Separately, reports citing Sacnilk placed the film’s India net collection at ₹9.25 crore. Domestic net and domestic gross are different measures, so the ₹9.25 crore figure should not be added to the worldwide gross. The reported worldwide total combines India gross and overseas gross. These opening-day estimates remain subject to revision.

The opening puts Ranabaali among Deverakonda’s five biggest worldwide debuts in Sacnilk’s comparison. However, it remains below Kingdom, Kushi, Liger and Dear Comrade on that measure. Its first-day earnings establish an opening benchmark, rather than a final verdict on its theatrical performance.

What is Ranabaali about?

Ranabaali follows Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, played by Deverakonda, during British colonial rule. The narrative places his resistance against the backdrop of famine and widespread hardship. Mandanna plays Jayamma, his wife, whose relationship with the protagonist provides a personal dimension to the larger conflict.

The film combines its period setting with action and an account of how colonial policies worsen the suffering of affected communities. Its historical backdrop should be distinguished from independently verified claims about every character or incident depicted on screen.

A different setting for Vijay and Rashmika’s reunion

Deverakonda and Mandanna previously appeared together in Geetha Govindam in 2018 and Dear Comrade in 2019. Ranabaali marks their third film together, placing their established screen partnership within a period action story.

Vanga’s endorsement has added an industry voice to the discussion surrounding the release. For the film’s box-office run, the next measure will be whether its opening-day audience carries into sustained attendance through the weekend and the following weekdays.
